The first known uninscribed coin of the Panchala dynasty
Lot 956
INDIA, Post-Mauryan (Panchala). Uncertain. 1/16 Karshapana (Bronze, 10x11 mm, 0.29 g), circa 2nd century BC. Tree-in-railing and srivatsa. Rev. Blank. Apparently unpublished and likely the first known uninscribed coin of the Panchala dynasty. Corroded, otherwise, about very fine.

From a collection of coins from Central Asia.

The coin depicts two of the three dynastic symbols of the Panchala kingdom that usually appear on inscribed coins. It was likely struck before the kings of Panchala began issuing coins with their own names.
